Dark Mode Microsoft Word On Mac
Back in August, Microsoft teased that it was working on Dark Mode support for its full Office suite for iOS and as it rolled out support for the feature with Outlook. The plan was to have Office Dark Mode support in time for the launch of iOS 13. Even though it’s coming about a month later, it’s great to now see system-wide Dark Mode support arrive for Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote for iPhone and iPad.
As we previously reported, Microsoft highlighted that it has built the system-wide Dark Mode support for its iOS 13 and iPadOS 13 Office suite from the ground up. That made the process a bit more labor-intensive as it “worked to ensure design teams were ‘aligning to the single palette.'”

Microsoft has slowly updated certain apps with support for Dark Mode like Office for Mac getting the dark treatment last December and Outlook for iOS getting the update back in August ahead of the iOS 13 release.
Microsoft Office includes black and dark gray themes. Windows 10’s system-wide dark mode won’t affect Office apps, but you can choose a dark theme for Office apps like Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint. This works on Office 365, Office 2016, and Office 2013.It works on any version of Windows, including Windows 7, 8, or 10.
Today, Microsoft has quietly rolled out system-wide Dark Mode support for iPhones and iPads running the latest iOS and iPadOS versions for the rest of its Office apps: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and OneNote. Interesting enough, the release notes don’t mention the change (except for OneNote) but Dark Mode support has indeed arrived as spotted by WCCFTech (via MacRumors)
Once you’ve updated to the most recent Office iOS or iPadOS apps, Microsoft’s productivity suite will respect the system-wide Dark Mode setting.
In addition to the official iOS 13 Dark Mode Support, the apps include some other small tweaks and changes.
Release notes for Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint:
Pick Your Destination: Use the Move command to easily move your cloud-based files from one folder to another.
Release notes for Microsoft OneNote:
* Go easy on your eyes with Dark Mode: Switch to Dark Mode in low light environments or whenever you want to increase the legibility of the OneNote user interface and the readability of your notes.
Thanks for using OneNote! We listened to your feedback and updated the application with optimizations to help improve your note taking experience.

Apple announced macOS 10.14 Mojave at their annual developers’ conference back in June of this year. The latest update to macOS brought with it a native, system-wide dark mode, along with other improvements to Finder, the desktop, the Mac App Store, and much more. The Cupertino giant made the update available to the general public starting September 25. If you are someone who prefers the new dark mode and also uses Microsoft’s Office apps, there is good news, as the company is bringing dark mode to Office 365 users.

Dark Mode Microsoft Word Mac
— MS Office Insiders (@OfficeInsider) 30 October 2018Announced today, build 181029 is heading to Office Insiders in the Fast ring that includes a new dark mode feature for Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Additionally, the build also includes a new ribbon with updated icon styling. The icons do look neat, as they adapt to the theme and are consistent across the ribbon. This should reduce strain on the eyes when the app is being viewed in the night or in dimly lit areas.
The update is currently out only for those with an Office 365 subscription that are enrolled in the Fast ring of the Office Insiders Program. The feature will eventually make its way to the wider audience soon. Office 2019 for Mac, the standalone version of Office that was made available late last month may not receive this feature, as that version is a one-time release and does not receive regular feature updates.
The Office apps follow suit in receiving the dark mode treatment along with other Microsoft apps such as OneDrive (on macOS), To-Do (on Windows 10) and Outlook on the Web. The Redmond giant also debuted a dark mode for the File Explorer in the Windows 10 October 2018 update. However, that update was pulled due to various issues, so if you weren’t a seeker who went ahead and updated early, you might have to wait for a bit longer to see it in action.
What do you think of the new dark mode on the Office apps for macOS? Is this something you were looking forward to? Let us know in the comments.
